Taking cues from his roots in linocut printmaking, Brighton-based, Laurie Avon creates illustrations with an organic, handmade feel. Working predominantly digitally in his commissioned work Laurie blends imaginative compositions and perspectives with craft and texture to create contemporary tableau. With influences from Eric Fraser’s Lord of the rings relief prints to sci fi illustration, music and protest art, Laurie is dedicated to his craft. As well as digital illustration he can offer bespoke linocuts for special projects and stamp making workshops.
Laurie’s clients include Rapha, The Guardian, TIME, La Repubblica, BBC History, Campbell Hay, Tortoise, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Penguin Books.

Process: Linocut is an intricate craft with a rich folk history and roots in activism. It is a more time consuming process than digital work due to cutting/inking/drying times, but highly bespoke, textured and powerful in its communication.

Myths, Gods and Gladiators in Ancient Rome Publishes - 1 Jan. 2026
This fascinating and funny comic book collection is the perfect introduction to the world of the ancient Romans. Including six mythical tales retold in comic strips, readers will learn about the founding of Rome in 'Romulus and Remus', meet a callous cyclops in 'Polyphemus and Ulysses', and much more. Each myth is told in engaging modern language, which is easy for children to understand yet still retains the humour and intrigue of the original tales.
As you journey back through ancient Rome, you'll meet an amazing array of mythical creatures and glorious gods, whilst non-fiction spreads will help you learn more about gruesome gladiators, amazing armies, evil emperors and the epic Roman empire.

Branding & Illustrated campaign for Roald Dahl’s ‘The Witches’, The National Theatre, 2024
Had the absolute dream of working with the NT and Roald Dahl Company to create the campaign for their production of The Witches! Created this with the brilliant direction of @louisearich (who is one of the best)! Such an honour to re-imagine and bring to life a story that used to (and still does) give me little shivers.
